Within a safe, nurturing environment, we encourage the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child.  With proper guidance, children learn to problem solve, become independent and respect ideas and feelings of others. One of our principal aims is to encourage group interaction while respecting each child's individuality.  We support the growth of a positive self-image for each child.  Developmentally appropriate materials and activities are provided so that children may learn and grow at their own rate.  Most of our curriculum originates from the children's current interests.  The greatest level of success depends on this and the school's children, teachers and parents working together.

Teachers

At Upper Falls, our warm and knowledgeable teachers are set apart by:
  • Extensive teaching and parenting experience
  • Real appreciation for children and respect for individuality
  • Qualifications that meet or exceed standards regulated by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care
  • Ongoing professional development training and support

Curriculum

Hands-on activities, self-discovery opportunities and creative work shape our curriculum.  Through activities they enjoy, children are exposed to art, creative movement, music, math, science, physical education and social studies.  Children work individually and in small groups to learn at their own pace, build confidence and form positive relationships.

Classroom

Our mixed-age class of 20 or fewer students is led by three or more teachers each day.  In this dynamic, gently guided environment, children are encouraged to interact with classmates of different ages.  Younger students learn from their older classmates.  Older students reinforce their own knowledge by serving as role models for younger classmates.  And all learn to respect one another for their unique contributions, regardless of age or experience.

Community

Families form the heart of the Upper Falls community.  Parents and caregivers may volunteer in the classroom, share talents or serve on the Board of Directors.  Informal daily contact, morning coffees and social events enhance the preschool experience for all.
